Whilst at Fanuc Luxembourg
During my week with Fanuc Luxembourg, I was lucky enough to meet people from many nationalities from mainland Europe, all within separate areas of the business and with different skill sets and areas of expertise.
Generally, the engineers working are not originally from Luxembourg, with Luxembourg being viewed as the finance hub of Europe, technical education has seen a decline in interest in recent years, with many school/college/university leavers choosing a career within the finance industry.
Fanuc is finding it increasingly different to find new staff equipped with the relevant skills required, therefore it is proactively increasing its apprenticeship scheme and upskilling its staff, training is planned in advance and is ongoing globally for all of Fanuc’s staff.
Promotion from within is also an important aspect as the skills acquired are not lost when people change position, Fanuc’s philosophy towards its staff was very good to witness first hand, after talking with some long serving staff as well as new recruits, I can see that this philosophy is why Fanuc can boast an extremely low turnover of staff.
